Christian Motorcyclists Association held their inaugural, annual, fundraising event this year, from February 24th to March 1st 2008, in support of Missionary Ventures. We did a 7 day round trip tour of NZ starting from Auckland, and travel through the following main centres of Wellington, Nelson, Greymouth, Wanaka, Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and back to Auckland. For more info on the 'Run for the Son' contact us on info@cmanz.org Back to top National Motorcyclists Memorial Run The Motorcyclists Memorial Run is held every year in memory of fallen bikers through the year. This memorial service is held for ALL bikers, CMA and others. Watch this space, details to follow. Back to top Drag Racing!! The Marshall beckons you forward towards your lane. You move forward onto the burnout area to warm up your tyre. The Marshall manning the 'Christmas Tree' shows you a rolling sign with his hand indicating that you can go ahead and warm your tyre up! Hold the front brake, bring the revs up, slipping the clutch and you light up the back tyre. Not too long, just enough to warm it up as good rubber is expensive and you have a few more runs to do. Now forward towards the staging line until the staging light comes on and then slowly forward until the second staging light comes on. Wait for the bike in the next lane to do the same. By now your heart is beating so hard it feels like it is going to jump out of your leather jacket and the adrenalin is flowing freely. Bring the revs up, the yellow lights on the 'Christmas Tree' comes on and then the green. You launch the bike with a little clutch slip. When you get forward speed and traction you release the clutch fully and crank the throttle wide open, first, second, third and maybe fourth depending on your bike. Blast over the speed traps at the end of the 400 meters, on the brakes to slow down before you run out of run-off area. In the writers opinion the most legal fun one can have in the plus or minus ten seconds it takes to run the quarter mile. In summer the DRAGWARS is held at Champion Drag way every second Friday night and Motorcycle entries is allowed on some other daytime events during winter. Dates and lots more information available on the drag wars website, www.dragwars.co.nz or www.championdragway.co.nz . Entries are limited to 250 racers and this normally includes up to 25+ motorcycles and there is a wide range, Harleys, 250s to modified Busas. There is two classes to enter in, C5 Motorcycles-heads-up or C3 Dial your own time. In C5 you race against other motorcycles and in C3 you dial your own time and you race against cars and bikes with similar times. Entry and scrutinering starts at five and the burnout competition can carry on until after midnight. On many occasions there would be either a Jet-car or other Dragsters that is capable of 7 or 8 sec passes. Between races there is heaps of time to chat to other bikers, watch the racing and grab something to eat or drink, have a look at the bikes and some seriously modified cars. Oh before I forget this is an alcohol free event so it is great to bring the whole family. Back to top To register your interest or for more details on any of these events contact us. |
